Curriculum Vitae: How to Write It Perfectly

Curriculum Vitae or CV in short, is like the story of your own life. It is that kind of story that will influence an employer to call you up. So the importance of writing a good and standard CV is beyond question. Take time to analyze and write down the achievements of your life. Try to put something extra other than your educational qualification or experiences. This ‘extra’ can bring a differentiation with other thousands of applicants. Keep the following things in mind while writing a CV.


Make a good appearance: A clean lay out and good selection of fonts can give a boost up start for a CV. You have to careful and passionate about it. This will help the employer to understand your eagerness about the job.


Using familiar font: You should use familiar fonts while writing a CV. Times New Roman, Arial or Verdana can be an automatic choice. These fonts are easy to read and at the same time looks appreciating. Make sure to keep font size above 11.


Spelling and Grammar: There is no way of making any spelling or grammatical mistake. It will drive the employer to take a negative decision within a blink of time. A perfect applicant will never make any spelling or grammatical error in his bio data.


Length and Layout: Now a days’ most of the company asks for sending the CV through email. Days are gone of printing the CV and posting manually. The length and layout should be taken care of properly while sending a CV. There is no need of filling the CV with unnecessary information. It will create a bad impression.


Some special qualifications: Most of the employers, now a days, want to have some extra qualification among the applicants. Such as communication skill, skill of working as a team, being positive, endeavoring mentality, flexibility etc. Be reminded to write these skill in your CV if you do have this virtues.


Use a different CV for different jobs: Your main CV can be of several pages. But you have organize your CV according to the post and organization that you are applying to. Do not use same CV for multiple jobs. Please be reminded that usually the CV should not be more than TWO pages. The first page is for vital information. Such as if you ever been the captain of your school’s football team, put that info in the CV so that it can give an idea that you have leadership skill. In case of switching jobs, one must mention the experience and achievements of the present workplace. Please be informed that the employer only reads the first some line of your CV. If you fail to draw the attention, he will not go to the second page. So you have to prove in the first page that you are the right person. Then use the second page to provide other necessary information like your previous work history, educational qualifications and other personal information.


Use accurate reference: One of the most important part of writing a CV is providing accurate information regarding your reference. Inform your reference person and take his/her permission before putting his/her name as a reference. You must provide accurate name, designation and contact information of your reference.


Take time to think and find out the inner capabilities among you which the job offering companies are searching for. So get ready! The job is waiting for you.
