Making Smart Career Choices

There are many career choices, from which one has to choose to make a living in this world. The world is full of opportunities offering wide range of experiences and satisfactions. Choosing a career becomes complicated considering the fact that all of us are good at several things which can help us in earning money and mental satisfaction. There are plenty of choices but our time and needs are limited. Frankly speaking, one should not be influenced by the cultural factors and peer pressure they should consider the following facts:

Proper allocation of time for work related activities and rest. All the human beings are endowed with different levels of capacity. Even our rest needs are different. There are people who can live their life having three to four hour sleep and there are many who need rest of at least eight hours. So while making your choice do think about you natural needs. If you trap your self in a work schedule, which disturbs your rest needs, eventually your body will deteriorate no need to emphasize that in such an event losing the career would be more than inevitable.

Choosing is Rejecting: There are many, who may find it complicated to understand but making a choice is the process of rejection in veil. If you decide to become a professor of Business Finance, you are rejecting the opportunity of becoming a investor, banker or some other related profession where the level of aptitude is almost same.

Check out your Future: You need not to do the time traveling, simply check out the satisfaction level, physical health and mental health of people who have spent more than decade in a particular career. If you feel that you want to be like them then go ahead but don’t take the plunge if you don’t like the state of their life.

Aptitude Test: Almost all the recruiters require specific academic qualifications and conduct some sort of written test / interview / screening process before selecting the candidates. The aim of the recruitment tests is to check the aptitude of the candidate for a particular job profile. However, those who are opting for entrepreneurship rarely go for the aptitude test, which may result in disastrous career. Therefore, if you are planning to become a businessperson taking the aptitude test is more important than those who are looking for job.

Choosing the Organization, Place and People: Having a career doesn’t end with the choice of academic subjects and field of work. One must also learn to choose the organization he or she is planning to work for. In case of self-run business, you must learn to choose the geography and people you want to work with. A banker can choose to work with a top Multinational bank like HSBC or village level co-operative bank. Depending upon the taste and life experiences one can find satisfaction working with a village co-operative bank and may reject the offer of top Multinational organizations.
