CV and a Resume

For one, a Curriculum Vitae or more popularly a CV is used mostly in the European region. As a matter of fact it comes from the Latin word, meaning ‘course of life’. Whereas, a resume is the American version of the CV. However, the Americans also use CV if they want to apply for the international job market or for an academic job. Another major difference between the two is that of the length. A CV is usually of two to eight pages long, but a resume will be completed in a page or two.

In practice a resume is the reflection of your accomplishments. It is very brief and is quite helpful for the job seekers. But for a scholastic person or for a technical position a CV is more apt. it will give a detailed summary of your qualification, experience, awards, accomplishments and other relevant information. It becomes useful when the job demands a more analytical person who has an eye for the detail and has experience in many projects. Hence, you must be careful of what you are applying for and what region the job is posted.

There are multiple ways of writing a resume or a CV. The purpose of each format varies form the perspective of the job position. Either way you need to have some research done before attempting to write the chronological resume. The job prospect and its responsibility along with the details of the organization is what you must study at large. Based on this information you can assimilate if you are capable enough to apply for the position. In the initial phase it sounds quite exciting to apply for a job opening and appear for an interview. But it is not an easy task at all. One must have patience in achieving the goal. As mentioned before you can have different formats for the resume or CV, but you must focus on the aspect of persuading the employer for an interview.

In reality though there will be a relation between a CV and a resume, but you need to maintain the conventions applicable in different regions. Either way the potential employer should be able to call you for an interview. Use keywords wherever applicable. Highlight the main points of the CV or resume, like the accomplishments, awards and any other relevant information. In both the scenarios an order must be maintained and everything you put across should be in a chronological format. Maintain logical deductions throughout the document and provide valid and useful facts. Do not fill up the document just for the sake of filling it up. Use your own conscience in composing the document. A good CV or resume is also helpful when you post them on the online job sites. With proper keywords you can get the maximum number of hits. Give importance to the document which can be the roadmap to your shining career.
