10 Telephone Interviews Hint"s and Tip"s

All job interviews can be hard, but more commonly people find telephone interviews to be a greater challenge. This doesn’t have to be the case, telephone interviews are EASIER then face-to-face interviews because you cannot see the interviewer, you can actually pass your job interview wearing your PJs. To pass any interview successfully you need to prepare as preparation is the key for successfully job hunting

1. Choose a quiet room with a good phone reception for the interview where you know that you will not be disturbed and feel comfortable. In front of you, you will need a copy of your CV or job application, pen and paper and a list of the key points you want to get across during the job interview

2. Have a good night’s sleep before hand – it will ensure that you are alert during the interview. If needed set your alarm to ensure you don’t miss that all important phone call

3. Write down and read memory aids and notes before the interview for the key points that you want to raise or examples of situations. To be really successful memories these selling points so you can easily bring them up during the interview question and answer section

4. Treat the telephone interview as a face-to-face interview, we joked about wearing your PJs but from a psychology point of view wear your interview clothes as you feel professional as if you were attending a face to face job interview

5. Breathe deeply and relax – remember that the interviewer is just trying to find out about you – this is your most knowledgeable subject!

6. Let the interviewer finish the question before you start to answer.

Before ending the call do ask any questions that you have. If you think of a question that you want to ask during the interview, jot it down so you don’t forget it.

7. Stand up and smile when talking on the phone, this will make your voice sound clear and confident – this has been proven by scientist

8. Think about the skills needed for the job you are applying for, when answering questions make sure you answer it referring to these skills you can write these answers on paper, no-one will know unless their using video calling

9. David Beckham spent hours football training, remember to be the best you need to practice, as practice makes perfect. The more you use the telephone the more confident you will be and employers recruit confident sounding people

10. There is no failure only feedback, once you make some mistakes during your first one or two telephone interviews (which means you need to complete some mock telephone interviews first) you need to re-look at the interview and asked “what can I do to answer this question better or with more confidence?”
