Are you taking the ASVAB Test? You will find that there are many ASVAB Study Guides to choose from. But how do you decide which one is best for you?
The cost of ASVAB study guides range widely. Some study material is free, while some study guides are very expensive. Content varies as well. Some study guides cover all the areas on the exam, while some only cover the AFQT section of the ASVAB Test or are missing one or two of the ten sections. Some study guides also include a practice test while others do not.
Kevin was taking the ASVAB Test. He had always wanted to join the military, just like his father. His dream was to move up in ranks throughout his career. He knew that he needed a high score on his ASVAB Test in order to do this. He didn’t want to start out with a job cleaning showers and toilets. Kevin was not going to let that happen.
Kevin went to the bookstore and bought a study guide. He picked the thickest one. He thought this would be the best since it was longer. Kevin didn’t pay attention to the fact that it was missing the newest section of the exam, Assembling Objects. It also had not been updated in years.
Kevin studied every free moment he had. He was determined to beat this test. He wanted a “cool” position in the worst way.
On test day, Kevin was feeling confident. He had never spent so much time studying. Now was his chance to pass this test with flying colors. Kevin sat down at the computer and began taking the test. He started to panic about half-way through. He hadn’t seen some of this before.
Kevin’s mistake was that he didn’t pay attention to what areas would be on his test. He figured that if he studied what was in his study guide, he would be properly prepared. He could not have been more wrong.
He also didn’t realize that the computerized version of the test gets harder if you are answering the questions correctly and easier if you are not doing well. Even though there were sections that Kevin thought were easy, it was because he was actually not doing well. Kevin was shocked when he got his scores back. He thought he had done so well on some of the sections.
Kevin knew that he needed to take the ASVAB Test over again. He absolutely had to have a higher score. He wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice. This time, he found a study guide on-line. He made sure that all ten sections were included (Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematic Knowledge (MK), General Science (GS), Electronics Information (EI), Mechanical Comprehension (MC), Auto & Shop Information (AI & SI), and Assembling Objects (AO).
Kevin also knew that he needed a study guide with a full practice test as well as a study guide that gave a good overview of the ASVAB Test. This time, he knew that it was important to know exactly what would be on the test and how the questions would be formatted.
The next time Kevin took the ASVAB Test, he scored very high. He would not make the same mistake again, especially with so much on the line. Kevin was now in the Marines, doing exactly what he had always wanted to do.
