Chief Electrician



 



Job Description



The hiring entity for this position is Pacific Drilling’s Nigerian affiliate, Pacific International Drilling West Africa Limited.



Position Summary:



The Chief Electrician is in charge of preventative maintenance, and ongoing maintenance repairs to equipment pertaining to the electrical department.



Position Scope:



The Chief Electrician coordinates the preventative and corrective maintenance in his/her area of responsibility, communicates regularly with the other departments (engine room, mechanic, electronic, subsea, drilling, marine and safety) as well as the client and other service partners when required. 



Qualifications and Experience:


  • Five years of offshore drilling experience in the electrical department.

  • NOV 6th generation cyber chair experience.

  • NOV MUX control 5th generation experience or higher.

  • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)

  • Nigerian In Country – resident

  • Fluent English communication skills (both oral and written)


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Act as a Safety Leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks with a special focus on Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.

  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of electrical components of : – drilling equipment (i.e. drilling motors and auxiliaries, Top Drive systems, mud pumps, etc…),  marine equipment (thruster motors, ballast system, cranes, etc…),  general rig equipment such as HVAC, refrigeration plants, power, etc…

  • Maintain sufficient spares are onboard – together with Electrician and Electrical Supervisor – for critical/safety/maintenance/operational systems with a pro-active attitude with regards to upcoming Preventive Maintenance System.

The 1st Engineer is in charge and to act as a leader in executing preventative / corrective maintenance tasks and ongoing maintenance repairs to equipment pertaining to engine room and auxiliary equipment areas.



Position Scope:



The 1st Engineer coordinates the preventive/corrective maintenance tasks and ongoing maintenance repairs. He/she communicates on a daily bases with the other departments to plan maintenance to prevent non-productive time. He/she communicates daily with the Mechanical Supervisor and Technical Superintendent to ensure maximum efficiency and preservation of the assets onboard; and is responsible to ensure the accuracy of data entered in the Computer Maintenance management System (CMMS) by all persons in his/her department.



Qualifications and Experience:


  • Five years of offshore experience on a dynamically positioned drilling vessel with a minimum of one year in the position of Chief Engineer (US) or First Engineer (2nd Engineer Europe).

  • An unlimited horsepower 1st engineer’s (2nd class motor) license/certificate of competency, without limitations of horsepower, issued by his/her National Maritime Administration in compliance with the STCW Code.

  • Valid STCW 78 (as amended) refresher certificates required to maintain the “Certificate of Competency” (STCW A-III/2 2nd Class Motor).

  • Extensive training and experience with electrical and hydraulic systems on, or equivalent with, offshore floating deepwater 5th or 6th generation rigs, including high voltage experience (1000V or higher) preferred.

IT Specialist



 



Job Description

Position Summary:



The Information Technology Specialist (IT Specialist) is in charge of performing and/or supervising the installation, repair and routine maintenance for the onboard IT infrastructure. Additionally supervises and coordinates change management for all on vessel corporate owned IT systems, control system software and network related systems, as well as IT security enforcement and guidance for these systems.



Position Scope:



The IT Specialist coordinates the preventative and corrective maintenance on the IT related equipment, communicates regularly with the other departments on the rig as well as the client and service partners when required. He/she regularly communicates with onshore field support and onshore IT department to ensure maximum efficiency, security and risk mitigation of the IT assets onboard. 



Qualifications and Experience:


  • Three years minimum of offshore experience in the Electrical / Electronic department or as an alternate five years minimum of related IT experience in an industrial environment plus an offshore orientation period.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Position Summary:



The Master/PIC is the lead of the Marine department onboard the drillship. He / She must have the qualifications, experience to control and thorough knowledge of all the Marine Operations on board. He / She has the overriding authority and responsibility to make decisions with respect to safety and security of crew, safety of the ship and marine environment and to request the Company’s onshore assistance as may be necessary.



Position Scope: 


  • The Master is responsible for the safe operation of the ship and for prevention of pollution or damage to the environment. The Master is empowered in all situations with overriding authority to act decisively and according to his / her best judgment to prevent injury to crewmembers, other persons and to protect his / her ship, other ships, property and marine environment from damage.

  • The Master will not be constrained by the Company, Contractor, or any other person, from making any decision that, in the professional judgment of the Master, is necessary for vessel safety, particularly in severe weather and heavy seas. In certain situations, his/her authority may mean deviation from documented procedures.

  • The Master shall request assistance from an appropriate person from the Company at any time in order to fulfill these responsibilities. 

  • Ultimate responsible for Marine personnel competency, training and coaching


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Valid national unlimited Master and Chief Officer Certificates acceptable by vessel flag state, GMDSS General Operator’s certificate, Dynamic Positioning Training courses, and other regulatory and non-regulatory courses.

  • All STCW 95 required training for Master on class of vessel and flag requirements.

  • An endorsement issued by the Flag Authority for recognition of Foreign Chief Officer Certificate without restrictions for class of vessel and equivalent to the national license.

Materials Coordinator



 



Job Description

Position Summary



The materials coordinator is directly responsible for the warehouse and storage locations associated to the warehouse under management



Main operations are coordinating the rig’s materials requisitions, organizing and controlling the warehouse, and maintaining the warehouse inventory levels within established guidelines. Materials coordinator should ensure all warehouse operations are carried out in a safe and prudent manner.



Qualifications and Experience


  • Two or more years of rig-based experience in similar positions with drilling contractor or large oil field service company.

  • Exposure to warehouse management applications (prefer SAP Warehouse Management).

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)

  • Secure the warehouse at all times and restrict access to non-authorized personnel.

  • Receive materials into the warehouse stock and issue parts to departments as needed.

  • Understand the technology that is required for rig operations. Assist with the evaluation of new technologies and products to determine their applicability to our immediate and future needs.

Position Summary:



The Mechanical Manager is in charge of preventative maintenance, and ongoing corrective maintenance repairs to equipment pertaining to both mechanical topside and engine room areas, with a pro-active attitude to prevent non-productive time.



Position Scope:



The Mechanical Manager coordinates the preventative and corrective maintenance in his/her area of responsibility, communicates regularly with the other departments (electrical, electronic, subsea, drilling, marine and safety) as well as the client and other service partners when required. He/she regularly communicates with onshore field support to ensure maximum efficiency and preservation of the assets onboard and is responsible to ensure the accuracy of data entered in the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by any persons in his/her department.



Qualifications and Experience:


  • Eight years of offshore experience in the Mechanical department (either mechanical topside or engine room background) preferably with DP experience.

  • NOV 6th generation cyber chair experience.

  • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)

  • Nigerian In Country – resident

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Act as a Safety Leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks with a special focus on Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.

  • Supervise and assist in completing the maintenance and repair of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic components of : – All Topside Drilling Equipment, Drilling Related Support Systems and Tubular Handling Equipment. – Pedestal Mounted Knuckle Boom Cranes and Heli-deck access crane.

  • Ensure all activities are carried out according to State, Class, Flag and client requirements.

  • Inform Technical Superintendent and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig.

  • Ensure that operations are planned, organized, supervised and executed in accordance with well programs, rig move plans, Pacific Drilling requirements and contractual obligations

  • Using the CMMS, coordinate planning and execution of preventive maintenance with a minimum of 6-week overview to cover current hitch and half of back-to back hitch, keeping an updated and accurate historical record of all maintenance done as well as all equipment certification documents.  

  • Verify minimum required spares onboard – together with direct supports – for critical/safety/maintenance/operational systems and liaise with Senior Materials Coordinator regarding outstanding orders and order with a pro-active attitude with regards to upcoming Preventive Maintenance.  

  • Verify workshop equipment/tools are maintained to the highest safety standards.

  • Ensure that members of the department have all necessary competencies, training and skills to perform their tasks. Provide assistance and training to the crew in the operation and maintenance of equipment; regularly appraise and provide feedback to department members.

Mud System Operator



 



Job Description

Position Summary



Performing all tasks related to drilling fluid management including operating and maintaining drilling fluid pumping, treatment and mixing systems. He/she will also assist in the execution of all drilling operations for the main or auxiliary well centers as required. All duties will be conducted in accordance with Pacific Drilling policies and procedures, in a safe and efficient manner.



Position Scope



The Mud System Operator will be assigned to work in any area onboard where activities pertaining to drilling operations are being conducted.



Qualifications and Experience


  • Three years offshore experience including time on a floating rig (preferably drillship).

  • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)•

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities


  • Act as a Safety Leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks with a special focus on Well Control, Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.

  • Actively participate in daily pre-tour meeting and pre-job meetings as often as required by the operations. When a deviation from the planned operations is necessary, stop the work, regroup and obtain approval prior to plan and implement the deviation.

  • Follow standard instructions and maintain good communication with the Assistant Driller and inform of any concern, ensuring any deviation is properly communicated and documented.

  • Supervise the Pumphand, Floorhands and Roustabouts when they are involved in mixing operations.

  • Ensure that operations are planned, organized, supervised and executed in accordance with well programs, rig move plans, Pacific Drilling requirements and contractual obligations.

  • Perform the Mud System Operators daily checks i.e. QHSE checks, tank volumes, manifold line ups etc.

  • Ensure material safety data sheets are available for all chemicals used for the fluid systems in use and that folders are updated.

  • Ensure that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is available and other safety equipment such as chemical showers and eye wash stations are well maintained in good working order.

  • Assist Service Partners with the planning for upcoming fluid management tasks.

  • Assist and relieve the Assistant Driller as required.

  • Monitor the mud tanks during operations and report any unexplained tank level, or mud property changes to the Driller.

  • Maintain an organized sack store and assist Service Partners maintaining an accurate inventory.

  • Ensure the solid control equipment and mud mixing operations are being monitored constantly and keep accurate records of fluid transfers, fluid treatments and fluid properties.

  • Implement, follow and regularly review Pacific Drilling work instructions.

  • Demonstrate leadership support for Pacific Drilling’s Competence Management Program and implement all program requirements to ensure direct reports have the necessary competencies, training and skills to perform their job.

  • Provide regular mentoring, appraisal and feedback to direct reports.

  • Perform preventive maintenance or maintenance repairs occurring on all fluid pumping and treatment equipment.


Technical Superintendent

Position Summary:



The Technical Superintendent is responsible for coordinating the preventative and corrective maintenance of the entire fabric of the vessel, including equipment and furnishings. The Technical Superintendent ensures equipment is maintained and serviced to achieve the optimum economic life-cycle and predictability within its life-cycle. He/She is responsible for providing the necessary power and services to the drilling operations and other support operations.



Position Scope:



The Technical Superintendent is the leader of the maintenance service team onboard the drillship and acts as a focal point for all equipment and vessel related issues onboard. He/she coordinates the preventative and corrective maintenance team onboard the vessel and with input from the other members of the Rig Management Team and Marine Department, sets priorities in order to ensure maximum safety, optimum efficiency and preservation of the facility and its equipment onboard. He/she is ultimately responsible to ensure the accuracy of the data entered in the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by all CMMS users on the vessel. The Technical Superintendent is the custodian of CMMS and is provided with the highest access level to enter corrections, data and changes in the maintenance routines and intervals, both calendar and event-based.



Qualifications and Experience:


  • Chief engineers’ (1st class) ticket, without limitations of horsepower, or geographical area.

  • Eight years of offshore drilling rig experience in the Maintenance department offshore, increasing responsibilities.

  • Familiar and experienced with computer based maintenance programs for offshore drilling units.

  • Extensive training and experience with electrical and hydraulic systems on, or equivalent with offshore floating deepwater 5th or 6th generation rigs.

  • NOV 6th generation cyber chair experience. NOV MUX control 5th generation experience or higher.

Quality Training Advisor



 



Job Description

Position Summary



The Quality and Training Advisor (QTA) is responsible for advising offshore personnel on Pacific Drilling Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, and Training management systems on board the vessel. The QTA assists in enhancing the QHSE skills of crew.



Position Scope



The position assists, recommends and advises the Vessel Management Team, the department supervisors and the crews on Quality, HSE and Training matters. The position provides the vital link between Quality, HSE and Training organizations onshore and implements the systems in the offshore environment. In addition to providing support to rig management, the position requires facilitation and/or delivery of Quality and HSE courses in order to develop crew skills.



Qualifications and Experience


  • Three years of offshore experience and demonstrated Quality and HSE leadership or as an alternate three years of Quality and HSE experience in associated industries plus an offshore orientation period to ensure as a minimum the qualification requirements for roustabout and roughneck as per Pacific Drilling Training Matrix.
