How to Write a CV


Your job is to market yourself. Your CV is your marketing tool. How to write a CV is about giving you the tools to promote yourself. It is your brochure, your advertisement, your first impression with your future employers. So you must know how to write a CV correctly.


You must get all your information together and write it in a rough draft form first.


When deciding how to write a CV, think of who you are writing it for. Keep it personal. There’s no point in sending out a constant stream of CV’s that all look the same to your whole list of prospective employers. And put some effort and time into it. You want it to stand out from all the other CV’s that have just landed on their desk.


You can put all your Information down in any way you like, so long as it’s readable and transmits the information you want. You obviously have to be boring in your personal details such as name, address, date of birth etc., but you can afford to be much less when writing about what your previous jobs entailed, what you skills you learnt there, your responsibilities, what you like to do in your spare time, and so on.


Don’t forget that you are promoting yourself. You need to sell yourself as much as possible. Highlight yourself in such a way that you grab and hold on to your potential employer’s attention. Keep it real. You have to make them want to meet you. You want to be on the top of the pile. If you can do that you are 90% into the job. Remember first impressions count. If they have it in their minds that you sound like the person for the job all you have to do is turn up and convince them all the way.
