Only 500 To Be Employed Out of 700,000 for FIRS Recruitment

The Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr Tunde Fowler, has mentioned that over 700,000 applications were received by the organization from the latest job advertisement it placed.


The service had earlier requested for applications into several positions in a number of adverts placed in some national newspapers.


Appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition, he said this on Wednesday in Abuja.

He appeared at the lower chamber following a petition from some applicants, who were alleged to have been deprived from the employment processes.


The FIRS’ boss mentioned that out of the 700,000 job applicants over than 2,000 candidates had first class degrees in different disciplines and was qualified to be engaged by the Service.


He said that the organization would employ only 500 people, and that the recruitment exercise was intended to increase manpower for tax revenue collection and increase the country’s revenue base.
He assured that the service would make sure that there is fairness and due process in the recruitment process.


“We have secured waiver and endorsement from the Federal Character Commission in order to ensure that the right thing is done.’’


The Chairman of the house committee, Mr Nkem Abonta, in his comments, directed Mr Fowler to submit the service’s nominal roll to assist it in arriving at a decision.
